Hiatus (well third time is the charm!)

Sometimes you hit an invisible wall: one that doesn't let either read or write.

For a really reaaaally long time I was there. At the other side of that metaphorical wall. I guess most of you have been there. For me it was super long. I missed blogging but just couldn't get back into it. I was keeping track of new books, buying some books here and there but nothing really made me want to keep on well reading. A few gems came along to remind me why I love reading and the pull was faint but in the end again forgotten. Now I am fairly confident that the pull has succeeded into transforming my reality once again.

I have read already a couple of books that I am working on the reviews on and I will participate in the new Booklikes-oply that I see going around (I love it that the last time I was active on this website I was playing that game; it's almost like the reading/blogging/reviewing slump has hit a full circle.)

So I am fixing a few tech stuff that broke on my pages (what's up with the petal theme?!) and I'll add/update the side pages.

Stay tuned for:

Hello!!!

After a SUPER long hiatus I have found time to get back to BL and reading/blogging!!! To kick things off I'm participating in the 24in48 readathon!!

Hiatus (again)

Hey guys! Soooo, how have you been??

Wow, I just logged in BL and it feels like forever ago since my last post.... There are so many personal stuff that kept me from blogging and most importantly from reading. But alas the hiatus is over!

So October is the month to read scary fiction and I think I nailed that! Surprise review to come!

I have many updates coming, so fair warning I will spam the home page!!

Cheers,

-M.

Booklikes-opoly! Turn #2 + Special Roll Day!

It took me forever to sort this one out! The double rolls and the special squares made this one hell of a turn!!

I slowed down the animation for the consequent steps and I really hope I didn't make any mistakes playing this one out.

I haven't selected any books yet, but most of them will be short as I want to fit them in the readathon!

Here are the boxes I landed on this turn: (in case you don't want to wait for the animation)

◈box 9: fantasy/fairy tale tag,

◈box 18: pub date 2006, 2011, 2013, 2014 or car on the cover,

◈box 27: author's initials found in "Tarzan" or tree on the cover,

◈box 34: tag middle grade/YA or toy/child on the cover,

◈box 2:character gets shot/main character knows how to handle a gun

I am so glad with the last square as I started the game late and everyone is so far ahead! I'll take a look at the players' banks in the discussion thread in order to choose a player with whom to share the "BL" square result.

Piggy Bank: 33$ (3$ from Coraline + 10$ from the BL square)

Cheers,

-M.

Yay! Thanks MR!

Booklikes-opoly + Readathon = Extra Rolls!

Original post @ Abandoned by user:

Here ye, here ye!

Roll, baby roll.

In honor of readathon, all booklikes-opoly players can take 3 extra rolls today, regardless of whether or not its a roll day for you or not. You don't have to be participating in readathon to roll, and the extra rolls are entirely optional!

No one goes to jail and everyone gets to read! If you end up on the jail spot, just roll again - and you don't have to count the roll against the 3 extras. If you end up on any spot that doesn't give you a chance to read a book, just roll again - and you don't have to count the roll against the 3 extras.

Once you establish your squares, you can't roll again until you finish your books and/or Monday if you decide not to read all the extra rolls, but this gives you a chance to rack up some extra bank today in honor of readathon.

Hour 3 - Cover from memory Mini-Challenge

This is a fun one!

Imagine a book.

Easy. Of course it's a Harry Potter one. I went with the complete edition as it was easier in Paint - voilá:

LOL - close enough!

Hour 0 – Opening Survey

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

In Netherlands, a small town called Nijmegen.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

This year I decided to not plan ahead my stack pile - just read.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

They are called "Pindarotsjes" and they are basically nuts with a chocolate coating- they are delicious!

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

Espresso lover bibliophile!

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

This is my third readathon but the only one so far that I have decided to read the full 24 hours! We'll see how this works! The different thing will be that I do not have a specific list of books I want to read today. I will try to finish some of the books I had on my 'currently reading' shelf for too long!

Best of luck to all participating!

Happy reading!!

Cheers,

-M.

New word of the day
New word of the day

Oh and I am definitely one!!

Booklikes-opoly! Roll #1

I decided to join in the fun too! And I'm very lucky too as today appears to be a roll day!!

Going over numerous posts, I caved to this game, which is both well thought and a very fun way to tackle our neverending TBRs!

A few links first (more for me to keep my posts organized)

General FAQ's

Main Gameplay

Special Squares

And of course the board:

Dice used found here.

And behold my adorable "pawn":

(I am addicted to these cuties!)

Sooooo............

*drum roll*

I went with a gif to describe each move as it seemed easier at first - it ended up taking way too much time. The end result was satisfying though, so I might keep it up!

Cheers,

SYNC 2017 - Week 1

AudiobookSync's Eighth Season has finally begun!

This week's selections are:

✒ Keep in mind that the titles are available only within a specific time frame - so hurry!

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde | Read by Greg Wise

Published by Naxos AudioBooks

Oscar Wilde’s enduring masterpiece, this fable of innocence and corruption, purity and decay has become a true classic. The beautiful, narcissistic Dorian Gray, torn between the influence of cynical hedonist Lord Henry Wotton and tortured artist Basil Hallward, sells the beauty of his soul in exchange for external perfection. Ultimately, he cannot escape the disfigurement of sin. Wilde’s remarkable wit and memorable, epigrammatic lines dazzle in audiobook form!

The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich | Read by Charlotte Parry, Christian Coulson

Published by Hachette Audio

Debut author Dawn Kurtagich is dead on in this terrifying psychological thriller!

Over two decades have passed since the fire at Elmbridge High, an inferno that took the lives of five teenagers. Not much was known about the events leading up to the tragedy - only that one student, Carly Johnson, vanished without a trace...

...until a diary is found hidden in the ruins.

But the diary, badly scorched, does not belong to Carly Johnson. It belongs to Kaitlyn Johnson, a girl who shouldn't exist. Who was Kaitlyn? Why did she come out only at night? What is her connection to Carly?

The case has been reopened. Police records are being reexamined: psychiatric reports, video footage, text messages, e-mails.

And the diary.

The diary that paints a much more sinister version of events than was ever made publicly known.

Bookish update - what I read/ February-March-April

It's been a struggle to read anything since this year began. Nothing held my attention. I must have started around ten books and finished none. An endless lists of books before me: review copies, new releases and library copies...

I was overwhelmed.

Until I asked myself what I really wanted to read. The answer was criminal fiction: a page turner that will ignite my reading passion. I turned to one of my favorites - Jeffery Deaver. I had started one of his books back in October (oh yes...) and just couldn't get into it. A trip we took last week presented the perfect reading spot: a 4-hour train ride! The book was really good; expect a review posted soon enough!

Apart from that I read a couple of graphic novels: the Morning Glories series and the new Sarah Andersen book. I enjoyed both! (again reviews will soon be up)

On other news, I bought some new books:

American Gods/Anansi Boys (Barnes & Noble Leatherbound Classics) - Neil Gaiman (audio and a beautiful hardback copy -couldn't resist)

Beartown: A Novel - Fredrik Backman (pre-ordered)

The Hate U Give - Angie Thomas (audio and kindle)

Dreadnought - April Daniels (kindle)

That's all for now! I can't wait to catch up with all of you!

Happy reading!!

Hello!!

I just wanted to say..

-hellooooo!

I missed this site so much...! Life has gotten in the way these last few months and I haven't been active online! *sigh*

What have you been up too?? I saw the bookish game that looks like monopoly and it seems super fun!! It seems a bit complicated, although to be honest I haven't read the full rules yet..

I can't wait for the dewey's readathon this weekend!!! And I'm glad to report that my reader's block is over!!  (just about time...)

So fair warning: I will be posting a lot!!
